Regulators

Regulator and Octopus

The regulator, also called automatic regulator, allows the breathing of a pressurized respiratory gas, even under water or in a toxic atmosphere. For this purpose, the breathing gas is reduced from the compressed air cylinder through the regulator to the prevailing pressure in the environment. Regulators are used in compressed air submersible devices.

The regulator used to be one level. Today two stages are in use. The first stage (pressure reducer) reduces the cylinder pressure from usually 200 to 300 bar to a mean pressure of around 9.5 to 10.5 bar (depending on the manufacturer) above the ambient pressure. The second stage reduces the middle pressure to the ambient pressure.
